Giving back to Africa

Giving back to society - Encouraging Africa Economic Growth through Trade and not Aid

My childhood was marked by helping my grand father, a street hawker selling dim-sum door to door. He instilled in me the spirit of quality when he rejected those dim-sum made by my grandmother that did not meet his standards. He also showed me the value of personal relationship in treating every person with respect and humility.

Born in Mauritius I grew up in an emerging (at one time the international community used the term “Third World”) country that is considered part of Africa. I experienced first hand the hardship of earning a living in such an environment which inspired my commitment to contribute in improving the living conditions of the people of Africa.

Why Rwanda?
Rwanda is a small land-locked country in Africa with a population that has shown resilience in overcoming many challenges to become a shining beacon of forgiveness and good governance to the world.

Why coffee?
Rwanda produces great coffee. Coffee employs a large proportion of the population, mainly women and is a significant export crop of Rwanda.
Promoting and selling Rwanda coffee is realising my commitment to contribute to make life better for people in Africa.

I believe in long-term relationship in business.

Gregory, my son and co founder of Latanier, travelled in May 2022 to Rwanda to get to know the owners of a few handpicked family owned coffee farms and production facilities to get to know and start building with them long-term relationships based on trust and mutual respect.
